OUR APPROACH

HOW WE HELP

Our innovative model of care is based on research, best practices, and our years of experience with addressing concussion symptoms and challenges.

Unique to the LA Concussion Center, nearly all of our participants will enjoy incorporating some form of physical activity into their brain-rebuilding efforts.

Our model unifies neurodevelopmental activities, sensory motor work, eye tracking, visual processing, social engagement, and confidence building among other things to bolster emerging positive changes in neuroplasticity.

Each participant works with us to develop protocols that are custom designed to fit their needs.

WHO WE HELP

We seek to serve individuals impacted by concussions and their caregivers by providing therapeutic services, education and advocacy to meet day-to-day needs while trying to navigate life in all its wondrous complexity. Whether it means getting back to work, returning to school, or just being safe at home, we are here to ensure the best quality of life for those living with a brain injury.

Studies have shown that how long ago an injury occurred has no significant influence on effectiveness of treatment. If it’s been ten months, or ten years, we still can help.

For those with histories of persistent concussion symptoms, you know from your (likely) short hospital stay, limited outpatient benefits, and stringent home health requirements, we are living in a society that does not lend itself well to long-term care services. And let’s face it – real life isn’t in a hospital or outpatient clinic anyway.

For those who were told that they have “just” a concussion and that they “should be better in 2 weeks” but they’ve found, instead, that their symptoms have only grown worse, the dysfunctional medical system described above didn’t even get started for you. It just completely failed you and now you are on your own and you are struggling….

What happens when you still need help dealing with a life-long injury?

The LA Concussion Center moves beyond the hospital and clinic walls and transcends the arbitrary demands of insurance providers to get to what really matters – living your best life.

In general, we welcome anyone who is:

  • Over age 18 (some exceptions may apply)

  • Medically stable

  • Able to demonstrate rehabilitation potential

THE FOUNDERS

WHO WE ARE

We look beyond what you can’t do today; working with you toward your envisioned future. At the LA Concussion Center, we are with you every step of the way — because we’ve been there. And we do that: Every. Day.

Our Founders are dedicated to serving the full community of individuals who are impacted by concussions, both patients and their support group. “Dr. Z” (Cristin Zeisler) and “Coach Ron” (Ron Peterson) have worked together for over a decade, continually refining what it means to support and promote physical and cognitive health. With deep, personal knowledge regarding how brain injuries can change lives, they are committed to guiding positive change for those they serve.

FAQ's

When a patient joins the LA Concussion Center community, we invite all referring physicians or other healthcare professionals to become part of our treatment team by participating in ongoing meetings and evaluations as needed.

  • No, you can contact the LA Concussion Center directly, and work with you in order to determine whether our program is a good fit for you and your needs.

    You can reach us by:

We generally work with individuals who are at least 18 years of age (with no upper age limit). We accept participants who are medically stable and show clearly definable rehabilitation. Symptoms related to the concussion must have existed for at least 1 week.  Ideally, participants should come equipped with a solid support system (family or friends) to bolster their progress.

Because we specialize in creative problem-solving, no two care plans are exactly alike.

Typically, the care plan starts with 2 assessment sessions, used to establish a baseline and ensure we are a good fit, then the treatment plan is personalized to reflect the participant’s life and goals. Our comprehensive approach also includes things like working with the participant and family on stress management and general understanding of “What is happening, Why it’s happening, and How we can help bring your life back much closer to normal”.

Not even close. The primary differences are:

  • Services provided – We deliver complex therapies with therapists who have extensive neurorehabilitation expertise.

  • Success criteria – We work with our clients and their loved ones to set unique, specific goals.

  • People served – We work with all ages of adults, from 18 to 80 (or oldest client so far!).

In short: “home health” looks at medical outcomes and is primarily concerned with your goals, needs, and safety. We look at functional outcomes and our focus is on helping you to get back to doing whatever matters most in your life.

Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover home and community rehab programs.

At this time we are unable to accept insurance. If you would like to submit documentation to your provider to request reimbursement, we can provide that to you.
